Hungry Seagull
My hungry seagull
stares through the window at me,
snow feather, pink feet.
Longing for ice-cream,
soft white wisps in crunchy cones,
beady eyes rake my kitchen.
Beak taps on clear glass,
sharper, harder, faster as
the bird’s anger breaks.
Shoo! You angry bird.
Take your needs away from me.
Find them somewhere else.
He flaps at me and
my arms flail, shushing him away.
We flap and flail.
But the famished bird
inside me beats angry wings
of desperate need.
