Language, Translation and Interpretation
This issue we have some fine work in German from Meli Depner who has an international reputation as a translator of other people’s work into German (especially from Yiddish). Translation itself is an unsung art and maybe this is why Meli has been hiding her own lamp under a bushel, a lamp which is lighting up our pages this issue. Thanks again, Meli.
Switzerland’s Hans Jürg Suter also writes in German and is something of a regular contributor. We are always pleased to hear from him and his contribution is as vivid as ever.
In Kernewek there are more of the peerless bezontenns which Tim Saunders produces apparently effortlessly. Tim has edited several anthologies of Kernewek poetry which showcase the many poets now writing in the language and although he never lets us down, this magazine will be pleased to receive submissions from poets writing in Cornish in any spelling system.
This year’s Gorseth Kernow will be held in Saltash on the first Saturday in September. It’ll be nice to meet the Saltash people again and all those who support us. We believe that asserting our own culture and our values of peace and unity to be the best way of assuring recognition of the value of all Culture and language, and we hope our magazine is doing something towards this end.
