Coffee House was founded by myself (Deborah Tyler-Bennett), at Charnwood Arts in 1998, and is now coming up for its 10th issue. It contains poetry (both experimental poems and those using traditional form), short fictions, and A5 black and white art work. Also the pages of the magazine usually contain small drawings, often done by myself, but sometimes by other artists. One of the influences behind the 'look' of the journal was the appearance of little magazines in the 1900s and 1920s, particularly those Russian journals illustrated by Ivan Bilibin. Over the years we've published work by poets such as Dermot Healy (IR), Lucien Stryk (US), Anthony Piccione (US), William Heyen (US) and other international voices, as well as promoting work by poets from the East Midlands and UK (such as Sam Gilliland, John Lucas, Chris Jones, Mark Goodwin, Emma Lee, and Gillian Spraggs). The journal has been edited by myself and produced by Charnwood Arts since its inception. So far, we've published ballads, villanelles, sonnetts, mixed form poems, ghost stories, realism, pastorals, haikus, and a wealth of other varied pieces. Circulation is about 300. We have copies on sale in shops in the UK, Ireland, and The Lift Bridge Bookshop in Brockport, New York State.
