Andónis Fostiéris (1953-)

Andónis Fostiéris was born in Athens. He studied Law at the University of Athens and at the Sorbonne. From 1974-1976, he edited the journal, Nea Poiisi, and since 1981, he has co-edited the literary magazine, I Lexi. He has published the following volumes of poetry: The Long Voyage (1971); Interior Spaces or The Twenty (1973); Dark Eros (1977); Poetry in Poetry (1977); The Devil Sang in Tune (1981); The Will and the Shall of Death (1987) and Thought Belongs to Mourning (1996). His work has been translated into a number of foreign languages and he has himself translated works by Henry Miller and several French poets. In 1993 he was awarded the Cavafy International Prize for Poetry.
