four poems for charles simic
ii. with the whiff of wind
against the background
of a twilit world
in which one has done so much
for one self
she throws a bra
on the laundry line
she rests her back on the wall
to shed off a blue wrapping
and it's nice to have glimpses
exactly then for the usual
round wriggling buttocks
and the cleave of her breast
after the rendition
of that day's
blessing and afterglows
in the cold evening
with the clone of shadows
on the sky's page
and the unlit smile of a clock
giving what music there is
its pitch tuned much toohigh
to drain out the lyrics
of what could be
a chilly new romantic poem...
