four poems for charles simic
i. mons venus
but for me, i want them with towers of bosom,
mr simic. i recall sucking the nipple of
an uncertain woman in the pool at dawn, while she
sucked mine. the water was warm, but we were
chilling. our cuddlings made the day to swagger, the
sun bids its time rising.
terrible damsels in the field rounded by
glance stealers, how blessed they always appear!
put down your arms and ammunition, madam, and
fix us some sweets on the stones. your cave
is opened, your forest is visibly unkempt. the rustle
of our ancient bed spread wafts to the
church across the road.
the worshippers don't know what to think of it.
some body is crying , some body is singing
erotic around the young saint. they
seem to know, they pause to look and
inspire her spiritually, and then strut on like game
in a game park we'll be having for early breakfast
today.
