9:50. Sunday. Thirteenth of March.
It’s dark. The outlook colder, cloud.
The rain keeps raining and my neighbour’s
still out banging two-inch nails
into an eight-foot rusty fence
of corrugated iron.
He’s making the boundaries clear between
his stock of timber and car-parts
and the car-parts and timber stacked up next door.
His curtains haven’t been opened for years -
no time for housework or clearing out.
He’s got to make the fence secure.
He says it’s like painting the Firth of Forth.
