prepare to launch themselves
at a lumbering run off Bognor Pier
to plummet thirty feet into cold grey sea
to rapturous screams.
The other contestants come
from the land of the Indian rope trick
with its intimate knowledge
of hiding places in the sky.
They regularly fall
at the exact same spot
in South West London,
dropping dead, frozen solid,
from a Boeing’s wheel casing
into a superstore car-park.
