Honeymoon Poem
for Jeanette
We’ve found plenty of dull pebbles, maybe
this is another. I’ll pick it. up anyhow
just in case it’s not. We’ve so many now!
It seemed like a good idea…..
but it’s a heavy bag we’re humping.
Let’s stop to sit and smoke and watch
the school party stumbling
down the hillside, pretending to get serious
with instruments and papers
as Sir ends on his arse in the wet.
It’s a good way to start it all off!
There’s a grin on my face
as the sun brings out your freckles
and the sea just won’t stop coming.
