Sex
I admit it freely:
I was sulky for a while,
turning up to parties
wearing the face Elvis sported
the day Priscilla slammed the door,
the face Nixon hid behind
in the summer of ‘73.
Or was it ‘74?
Whatever, some neat card tricks,
and the presidential pardon,
nonsense for posterity:
A new type of hairstyle
will be proposed at ten pm.
Thank you, you may switch off
the tape machine.
Now I remember:
I was seventeen, a bad year
whatever face I pull at it,
my first job
leading to my second and third
and fourth jobs, not one job
anything
but spit on the head.
Then there was the sex thing.
We don’t talk about sex.
