Summer night bridge overlooking Otter Pond's tidal rip
Blue phosphorescent
jelly fish throbbing
blinking as they bump
under water impediments
rocks, warily
submerged
blue shooting stars,
swimming hard blobs
five foot long fireflies,
tide ripping them lit
a screaming pitch.
What god made this being whose fear of death ignites
such an hopeful gleam?
How many drive by unaware
of the sagas underwater here
in the tidal pulse of a ten acre pond?
The road has its own load, the travellers respond:
rain, leaves, traffic wear it down;
the sun, at summertime noon
pennies, bottle caps, and keys entomb
in wintertime you'll find them
encased... as remains.
