Outside Paradise
swaying the landscape
a mammoth leaning on tall grass
topples at water's edge
shallow breathing strokes
slender reeds twisting round his trunk
the last of eleven inch molars
ground smooth
no way to feed
a fist of stomach
devours intestines
thin walls of the giant heart cannot
nor shrivelled lungs expel
into the magnitude of sky
coffined in sunlight
and was the dying there before Eve saw
