each day takes
its place in the sequence which brings the soul
to a rare gladness while the hazy
damp rises up away from the potato
fields and cowsheds, watching the
sea, the tide shuffling out leaving
wet swampy sand across the bay
while evening dropped
over Bodafon Mountain
first sight of the new moon
razor-thin and
clouds coming up from the north
darkened the pig-lands early
log-smoke rising straight, retreat
clouds all day hung over the mountains
venus is bright, thundery bright
trees stay wintry but the moon fattens
a strange light descends like when
clouds come over valleys those slow
dry twilights of mountain country
so time camps down
here & there beside
the shore silently hands
out the good life to
nobody in particular but
leaves it in vaults of
the growing moon where we can come
