Bourbon
Because there is no sweetness to it
I can drink it straight
as long as I have something to look at.
Tonight it is the rain; rain is good,
its constancy, its alterations.
Bourbon is best drunk alone
in small sips in slow metronomic
constancy, like the rain,
each sip separate but the same.
It is this pattern like chanting
that allows time to flow freely again
down the dark lawn making streams that
will carry whatever I wish them to carry
into the future or back to you.
