Looking Back From Another December
Well, my mother couldn’t die again this year,
and I got to spend a month in Ireland
getting fatter. Liam broke no bones
and nothing close to me burned down.
All my ex-lovers got a year older
and I traded up to a nine-year old pickup.
I started to learn how to make curry.
I published a book of prose that arrived
on the scene like a coastal blackout
I still got to treat my body as if it were
thirty years younger than it is, and
right before dawn with a full-bladder hard-on
I still get to dream about young girls, their
unreal eyes dark with innocence and lust.
