Huddersfield Narrow Canal At Wakefield Road
Transparently packaging the volume of darkness beneath
The wind smoothes ripples (that only rise again)
Through the surface skin of the blocked canal.
The northern breezes pilot rubbish down
Towards the filled-in arches of the bridge
Along whose front it docks: window frames
And planks from the building site and, rocking gently,
In a dirty ice floe, polystyrene
Fragments of cladding, cheap, light and durable,
The perfect rubbish.
