Bob Woodroofe
First Light
The snake flickers
dazzles in the dark
eyes wide open
but seeing nothing
going nowhere as
the endless current
follows the leader
down the wire
commuters coil
nose to tail
in futile pursuit
trying to plug into
the money circuit
connect to the grid
generate wealth
as dawn dips
into day they dim
head to side
splutter and fade
wink out as
the spark dies
