Driving Home
The night planned -
was a stranger Waiting taxis in suburban
side streets - an Italian restaurant open to an elite
while we spoke
of confusions and vulnerabilities -
side stepping the neon and
concrete canyons
without asking any questions
surrounded by men in black ties and white silk scarves
who had escaped from endless small talk
while we walk with creators at our feet - could
you call this driving home?
I call it obsession and the heart’s longing
heartbreak house - wanting what you can never have
feeling the night watching you
the street waits to trip you up and
nothing is real anymore
only this longing that can never be satisfied
caught for a moment them eluded and
your words merely empty echoes
in a night that is too indigo and home
a place never to be reached without
catastrophe, but I
star struck in the shivering air,
still expecting miracles.
