Mixed-Up Kid
Every so often a poem
should come to you and,
in your mind, it should sound
and feel like a Bob Dylan lyric.
Evoke sensations of a mixed-up kid,
perceptive observations,
self indulgent rambling and
obscure, yet profound, truisms.
Tomorrow is a long time...
Illusions of permanence.
It should catch the imagination,
Boots of Spanish leather...
like buck hares in spring.
Depression like a friend;
Black Crow Blues...
Love minus zero...
mocking or mourning?
Waiting for an answer.
Lilting, lifting, soul raising,
Blowin’ in the wind...
The long legs of spring canter
under skies of cinnibar red.
High drama of human nature,
when they drove old Dixie down...
Bitch in a triangle.
And the pristine love:
Girl from the north country...
whispered words of love.
The hope of magic.
The magic of hope.
Hey, Mister Tambourine Man...
come with me.
Let you be in my dream,
jf I can be in yours...
Share the dream.
Have a memory on me.
Observe the light on shaded pool
while the skeleton clock ticks
on those peony days.
Flecks of rain on your face
while you sit at the edge of my world,
where the clouds are born.
Such is the nature of things
for a mixed-up man.
