Abba-esque and the Captain of my Heart
Northern soul eyes protrude
a little larger into my gyrating heart
on receipt of unscrubbed photo
from a dog-eared lens and the capture of
a pair of West Coast jeans from
their groove-loving zipped blue centre
and the icicle-pierce of a riff from a Quo
tune reminds me of
the days lived before these days
of eye-strain from screen icons when
men wore hair like men should and
smelt like that too
and now
I note an unaftershaved face like on
a hundred seventies album covers
dragging me over T-bone dinner miles
from home and
taking my coat as a forethought
in a cosy pub corner far from the
maddeningly unbelievable political perfection
of late twentieth century inoffense with
him paying and me getting
flowers on top I wonder
where he was when Abba sang Waterloo
