Headless Angel
The vandal seeks to denigrate.
He is cold, chilled to the bone,
His last cigarette smoked an hour ago.
He knows where to find her,
Asleep in the virgin snow,
In the garden of rest, where time
Is a memory for the Victorian child.
Her marble lips quiescent,
She knows only the kiss of death.
Her impassive eyes perennial,
She is blind to love and sensation,
Her stone body still sacred,
Smooth hands held in eternal prayer,
Guardian angel,
Frigid in frost or vivd sunshine,
Oblivious to famine or feast.
With a stolen axe,
He chopped off her pure head.
She does not stain the perfect snow,
She cannot bleed as women do.
Headless angel have mercy upon him,
His reckless deed is done.
His salty tears intertwine with guilt.
He is cold, will die of hypothermia tonight,
A plebeian with a mind below zero.
