A Victim of Circumstance
Critics have for a long time accepted the art of writing as
structural to literature. The act of writing they have not.
Until recently, the last decade or so; French structuralism
- its examples, apologists, the faithful - provides the argu-
ment. Though it is still an intellectual scarf in America.
It decorates necks but few have yet hung themselves.
An airplane flies from here to here.
I’ve the idea of literature in the Chamber of Lords placing a
lighted bomb, an old anarchist caricature. Below it the caption
reads: IN THE SERVICE OF SELF.
The airplane leaves again.
