Baudelaire: Les Bijoux
Nothing on
save a torch song
of bright jewels
giving her an air
I flashed on
a happy slave
before her movement
clinking like glass
against mylar
jolting me
on a passionate train
to love to distraction
to a place where sound
mingles over the tables
with light
she gave herself to me
on a bed of rose
smiling above the sea
the sea of my passion
rising toward her
as toward its cliff
her eyes fastened
on me
fixed
as her hips
shifted
On the couch
the polished oil of her skin
passed before my still dry eyes
glimpse of arm, leg, loin, thigh
the clusters of my vine:
belly and breasts --
a ripeness is all
the mouth so close and small
imploring silent saxaphone
to tender drumbeat in my heart
below the balcony
of crystal my soul
quietly watches from
waist so thin set on firm
haunches of the Antilope
beneath young boy pencilled in
sinewy as a swan
the rouge
deepening her complexion
and the lamp slowly going out
the sun alone lighted that room
flooding with blood the amber skin.
