Too Bitter for Wisdom
1. imagination
spurred by the heart
that the collusion with reality that
is death
raises emotion to such pitch
is opportunity
to raise the rest to equal it
this the unique chance
death affords
2. amaze minus pain
like
grief minus dismay
or
isolation plus courage
love by two or
times hope equals
a kind and degree of
success that will grow despite all
the ravages
3. take note
of the small transitory pains
now
that in dotage they be
not alarming
none left absorbed
not one needs be permanent
but handled and admired, its
intricacies
