Drowning
So, there I was
halfway through explaining,
to those who were listening,
that something floats
when forces acting on it are equal:
the downward pull of gravity
and the upthrust of water,
when I found myself tailing off;
turning from the sea of faces
to bright cumulus clouds
above the playground, where
I saw galleons, clippers, catamarans
sailing over rooftops, Comet, B & Q;
out beyond the busy interchange at Asda,
to the wide open spaces
where the land shelves off into the sea.
All I know, is that
an hour after spotting the armada
I found myself in The Safe Harbour,
dialling our number,
for you to throw me a line.
