grandma’s had your throw she’s sewn name tags onto everything
even your flannel, and dad’s put a number inside your Wellingtons
in waterproof pen, he forgot his move, he’s got no chance of a set.
I’m collecting your rents under the board. You still could win.
Mum’s on your hotel, she’s bankrupt, she blames all this packing.
Aunt Joyce is on the phone to wish you luck, she bets
you’ll love it away, Richard did from the word go, it gives boys a start,
dad supposes it must, he’s gone to strap your trunk to the roof-rack,
so now there’s no-one to finish the game. I’m to make myself useful,
somebody’s got to stay behind to feed the cat. Dad’s shouting.
None of this would be happening if it wasn’t for grandpa’s money.
