Lord Lonkin's Hall
stump walls a rectangle
not much above tallest weedheight
on shelf above steep ravine drop
- behind, scruff pinewood;
above new road bridge dwarfs out
traffic enough across land’s neck 'd
never hear childcry when unpaid
builder, bullied nanny take turns
draining blood, a treat for baby’s
mother told only later what she’d
hot steamy drunk a midnight supper
went down as smooth as miles your
foot down now day west into dusk
a bit of ruin grey incurious lump
as putty into greyer only speeds
you through such folk a danger only
if you come to rest begin to nose
to risk to interfere and even then
no voice now no more than wind in
sharp needles stream flow far down
steep drop to Tyne and in your head
handy unending as car engine radio
faroffing handily such things you’d
yourself personally never ever even
think to do or else
