Midnight at the Grape-Harvesting Festival
Mendoza, Argentina
On mounted hay, entangled straws form rows of empty streets
bathed in light and scattered patterns of shadows sending waves.
Frolicking bugs zip feverishly in the buzzing underneath.
Sheltered trunks enchant, and foliage promises encounters
beneath limbs where inebriated lips breathe incantations,
as trees gaze drowsily, their golden leaves tumbling to the ground.
Fertile soil, pebble-covered, ingests the desert's arid breeze.
Small intervals elapse, as unexpected pauses press to shroud
the somber night delighting in wine's drunken discovery.
