My fine friend
I often watch as you leave home in the morning
sniffing in the early air as if you owned it.
I wonder if and when the thought might occur
that even the luckiest of individuals can come to
a tyre squealing petrol leaking doors not opening
end.
I'm sure you have seen
the burnt out reminders
the "Police Aware" sign
stuck on the scorched metal.
From where I stand it doesn't look good
and I see more than you realise.
Certainly I know your depths
the hollow bones that harbour doubts
the forged past and the hang-a-day present.
Last night I listened at the window
as you cried in your sleep.
I taped the event and will circulate
this to your friends.
Also I enclose some poems you wrote
and had hopes for.
Please send more.
