National Poetry Day
A stiletto shoe the colour of wine
a Gulliver-like robe laced in steel
bright motionary catacombs
a feather the weight of lead
my first and last tears
the taste of an ancient pain.
The memory of a sinking boat
bearing the smell of Waterloo Bridge
I will put a wrinkly, stockinged foot
the size of a Japanese pea,
shaped like a Koi fish
valued at high a price
for beauty is in the lover's eye.
I would put a fallen star
a song my nana wrote
the root of a mango tree
children who know no loss
ginger bread, Santa Claus,
master key until the box is overstuffed
