Night Cube
With one show over, the gallery-goers gone,
In the darkness, it is the empty white room
Takes centre stage in strobes of headlights
From passing traffic, reeling off its whole set
In flickering tableaux as if stills from old films:
Jeff Wall light box; Joseph Cornell shadow box;
Borg ambulance; Zen dice; God's television;
Perfected Masonic ashlar; the Ka'aba Stone,
Before darkened by the sinful breath of men;
Now a silver negative of the New Jerusalem
In its heavenly flight, fugitive as this poem
Melting on its page like a cube of black ice.
