North Cornwall.
What comes looking
finds
lifted from the sea’s lap
this cove’s places,
rocked back,
gentle,
from force
all hours
under
a sway of tides.
These reaching hands -
soft shone,
tall places
cleft with
messages
saying
this is
world,
pooled
a moment
colours
not of your imagination.
Steeped in glint
the return,
moon-like
under the cold hush,
split light
from silence -
the fair-weather gulls,
wind’s echo
and the children’s call.
The soft-shoe wrack glisten
floating pink pools in
slate summers.
Coming in quick,
the shelled cliff
footing it back -
its arbitrary lines.
