Chrysanthemums
Chrysanthemums cast shadows on walls
That define themselves
In proximity to
Greater form the shadow
Speaks its own language
And
Becomes a new-found
Image grown dim
In lesser light.
The candle flickers against
The wall
Shadows grow long
In time
The spaces between our
Selves grow shadowy
As we grow cooler
Our language dimmer
We speak in tones
Semi-tones darker
Hues keep us moulded
Together.
Becoming stronger
We meet in the
Half-light our
Shadows are longer
We speak in volumes
Of lesser tongues
Grown cold.
We hold ourselves apart.
Begin to see the hues
Of yesterday grown
Thin yet
Strong we mould
Ourselves together
Weaving our golden web
The strands of our
Fabric holds itself
Strong frailty
Keeps us attached
To
Each other as
The candle flame that flickers
Wobbles its reflected form
Against the wall.
