Differences
I throw away flowers before they’re dead
and newspapers before I’ve read them.
I throw away important documents
then claim I never had them.
I throw away comments
and money on frivolities
like stick-on tattoos
and pink hair-spray I’ll never use.
You keep boxes and cardboard
and bits of string
and dead batteries and light bulbs
and old shoes you claim you might need
and your thoughts
you keep hidden somewhere safe
just in case
I throw them away.
