A Street Car Named Desire
We called her Hope
desperate to defy destiny
a defence mechanism
in borderline personality
because we don’t have
any charity or faith.
Only a middle name
so no one will ever
really call her it
except doctors, courts and dss
she don’t have to explain.
Living on Hope street
pebble dashed road
with a watering hole
where no one knows our identity
and each police van
that goes past is a fair cop.
Young couple died today
at number ten
wheel of fortune
didn’t do them any good.
I fell in love
with a button nose
two dark bitter chocolate eyes
God’s fuck off chin.
Unplanned along you came
and we must cope
reap desires
on which we hope.
