Crosswise
looms the spine of a mammoth.
Now it's moving
with improbable swayings, lascivious trunks;
Turn round, look
prehistory sinks down imaginary crevasses
faced by glaciers two brontosauri
bought themselves effigies of a tired attraction
and multiplied in fruitless divisions
see what impassioned agony our idle bulks conceal
and how our species bellows
before collapsing for ever.
