Yánnis Varvéris (1955-)

Yánnis Varvéris was born in Athens. He studied law at Athens University. Since 1975 he has worked as a theatre critic for magazines and newspapers and has published five critical works on the theatre. In 1996, he was awarded the State Prize for the best critical study. He has published the following collections of poetry: In Imagination and Word (1975); The Beak (1978); War Disabled (1982); Death Levels It (1986); Piano of the Deep (1991); Mr Fog (1993) and Invalid Miracle (1996). His translations of works by Menander and Aristophanes have been staged in Epidaurus and he has also published translations of works by Ferré, Prévert, Carrington, Brassens, Mrozek, Cendrars, Moliére, Whitman and Wilde.
