the scribbler
whenever the mood takes him,
by the rolling water mill
of a kitschy pub,
or in town
located among
an urban tumbling mess
snatching food as and when,
or through vanished
loving, overcome in a welter
of pity, cold meats and funeral feasts
spread abroad on white cloths,
he catches
a mood,
thinks of
an old teacher,
pretty girls
a dolly tune,
remembers
dances and drinks
in midnight mornings,
he sees
the golden good time
turning to cold clay
and fine woven cloth
change into shreds
scattering dusty strings
in an old sunlight.
