Watching for all time
His white Alpine face stares motionless to the sea.
Earth forces have pushed him up to watch for eternity.
For years his face has aged; growing moss like a beard.
He has power, a sense of evil despite his harmless pale
complexion.
Many have jumped from his head. He always watches
them plummet past his eyes and he laughs at them as
they hit the ground below him.
Indifferent to human loss.
He fears nothing. Welcoming the darkest of nights and
most violent of raging storms.
He relishes thunder, and smiles as lightning
washes over him - bathing in the passing flashes of light.
Every morning when I wake up he is already awake
watching me, as he watches everyone and
everything; as he has done for centuries and
will do for centuries to come.
When I am gone he will remain, looking out to the sea,
watching, until the end of time.
