the naked firelight of our heyday -
cold in their velvet now
as crystals of the dark.
New heady blossoms
madden the same alcove.
Gilt mirrors that tarnished
the frequent ache of our love
display anonymous hands about her.
A visitor these days politely
turned from the white threshold.
told she's out while late lamplight
stresses the upper windows.
my exiled weary ghost
steals through closed doors,
examines their act,
lift of her breasts,
the quiver as she's taken not by me.
Her half-closed eyes
as he works to perfection in her
ignore me at their bedside,
the fact I once was
unimportant like
the colours of her privacy.
