This is a very assured collection of short stories, a genre not often promoted by mainstream publishers. But in Vinegar Sunday, Kankana Basu convinces us that it is as powerful a genre as a novel if not more, its impact far more convincing when handled well. She does that non-chalantly with her writing talent leading us into a world of interior reflection, angst, and imagination — many stories are set in the Bengali middle class photographic frames. Vinegar Sunday is a poetic prose book that brings to light a writer of immense promise.
