Emigrating
I follow from a distance, stay on the safe side
like the undecided article before your nouns. At nightfall
I cling to the arc of your language, my own preserved
in my mother's brine: after a while its sharpness has gone.
What I can't see, I hear: the shoal of your words takes me in.
Words moving into land knowing things I don't,
their mouth full of teeth.
At dawn my words rise from under your toe, become like your love:
a trick of the tongue. Let loose on fields, dogs piss against them
with one leg up. Love in both my hands to keep me lonely.
Walking on.
I feed on crumbs from your English at noon, don't need much,
my gratefulness with an accent. The sand of the words in my face,
your words crying with my eyes.
Elsewhere tulips close at sunset like satiated mouths.
I remain on this side unseen to them until I hear weeping
the bear bone of word, of home.
