At night she tries to think
What it is she hasn’t done.
She feels unsafe,
She checks the locks.
She returns to the kitchen,
Finds a cold cup of tea.
She checks her watch,
Can’t believe where the time’s gone.
She listens for the phone,
Tries to remember when anyone called.
She goes to bed,
Finds it unmade.
She’s never done that before.
She checks the locks.
