processed garden peas.
You grope tearfully for change
in a biscuit tin
brooding with blank moons;
carry the mush of cake
crumbs left from the funeral
as far as the bird table
then forget why.
I stand at the door encouraging
a terrified animal.
Try raising the left first,
then the right, I suggest.
Try taking a deep breath.
Now it’s the turn of the new
minimalist quartz clock
on top of the TV.
What do all those
numbers mean, you ask,
are they time?
