London Bridge
I met Midnight,
Under London Bridge last night.
She had wild black hair.
She wore a robe flecked with starlight.
Her bare feet splashed in the river as she walked.
She took my hand,
Her fingers were deathly cold,
And led me along the moonlight path over the river.
We sat on the clouds.
Looking down on London town,
And Midnight, she gave me two choices.
‘Stay here if you wish,’ she softly said,
‘Abide with your lonely planet.
Or follow me,
And together we can walk at midnight,
And shower dreams
As sleeping mortals lie,
To forever and eternity.’
I kicked my feet
And felt the breeze.
I shook my head.
Midnight sighed,
Tears dripped through her lashes.
She touched my cheek,
And I fell.
The murky water washed round me,
Enveloped me.
I felt an arm around my waist,
Lifting me clear.
‘Wait!’ I cried.
A voice on the wind told me it was alright.
-
I met One O’clock,
Under London Bridge last night.
She had long, blonde hair.
She wore a gown of purest white.
She slept beside the river
And saved lone travellers
From the wrath of Midnight,
Each night.
