Night after night nothing to speak of:
A quotation someone else’s line,
Perhaps a conceit demi-conceit,
Flight of fancy grounded on runway,
Fragment followed by omission dots,
A series of unreturned first serves -
Not: sustained exchange over the net
While half-aware of swivelling heads.
In the mirror after blind decades
Eyes now register signs of decay -
Which women stand up for in buses!
‘It is all over bar the shouting’ -
Cliché unhearing ears imagine
As images fade.
