Fossil Expedition
Gotta show the three wise men the way Custer said,
winking to his lieutenant as he left the fort.
The scholars were sweating in the morning sun.
They rode silently through the Badlands until Custer shouted
So, digging up some bones? Yep.
Injun bones? He looked round but saw no smiles.
Monsters then? You could say that.
A turn and suddenly they were on a ridge.
I chose this route special. See that view?
"Our valley's down there, captain?
Sure, don't worry, I had a scout out this morning.
They worked with spades for hours, then brushes while
Custer smoked, scanning the horizon, sipping from a flask.
What did it matter that he flopped at West Point ?
History would judge, not some jackass training officer
who ain't never had a arrow through his hat.
The prof checked his fobwatch yet again.
It's time we went. Caked in dust they packed.
Nice suit you got there, sir said Custer.
All the way back he could hear bones rattling in their saddlebags.
