On one bank in early spring a host
was celebrated in the total rain
against the walls. No stone was neutral,
it was that close an action.
I thought looking on the estuary
from a boarding house for minor paper
students, the view is meant for a campaign,
a fleet or an army, either way
knowledge rests on detail, bone,
rubbish or charcoal. The burgesses
of Conway leave their boats for days on end
and an economic movement is the only activity
in and out to the family grounds
we can recall. There were times
when nothing would be found,
the wild grass in evidence,
Snowdon and those further mountains all around.
Digging in an exposure of growth,
as far down as a cerebral pattern,
it wasn’t clear when you arrived
what you took as treasure or left as it happened.
