Giles Goodland
A Cycle
Rarefied with gold moment
in the stretch between trees
the sum of each shimmer
both webs and shatters
contains avenues
through which only light enters
the substance of which disturbs leaves
as they noiselessly twitter
a cold autumn notation.
Let me say, frequently
and at odds with
the soldered sun
all I can connect this to is
how it might feel later
coming home hesitantly,
aware of a presence, where
the streetlights hesitate
and as the battery fails in the torch
what is left shines from
night’s knowledge of its own decay.
