Her Dress
What does a lover need?
A rose and time.
A rose who likes to dance
in a long narrow dress,
shimmery aquamarine,
tiny glass beads
encrust the bodice,
sparser over the hips allowing
the heavy satin full command.
Never needed pressing
never needed anything
but slender body preferably hers.
A very deep back,
no knickers or other
under garment allowed
to spoil the line.
In a slow foxtrot
its deep narrow folds
unwound to glide
across the floor,
stopping like a pendulum,
resting heavy next to your leg.
Too long
for any cupboard
the dress hung
from its shoulder straps down
the cold wall under the overcoats.
Where she got it?
never asked, never dared.
